Camden carriage house
Camden, MAINE
2016-2017

As part of an ongoing revitalization of their oceanfront estate in Camden, these longterm clients requested that I design a new storage building for their garden supplies and lawn care equipment. The clients made it clear that they were not looking for the typical bare-bones utility shed. They wanted this structure to resemble a true carriage house, with every aspect custom-designed and partly inspired by Craftsman and Victorian aesthetics. Large doors on each end allow the caretaker's riding lawnmower and golf-cart to drive straight through the building, instead of back out through a single door each time. Intended as a periodic workshop as well, the building's interior was outfitted with workbenches and additional storage space along the side walls. Ample daylighting through the large hooded windows and copper-topped cupola above creates a sun-filled sanctuary for minor repairs, machine maintenance and carpentry projects.
